Caring for someone living with an acquired brain injury can be rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming. At the Brain Injury Association of Fort Erie (BIAFE), we recognize that caregivers need support too.
We are launching in September our Caregiver Conversation Group. This group will run on Wednesdays from 6pm-8pm. It is designed to bring caregivers together for a social and recreational support in a welcoming and warm environment. This group will provide an opportunity to connect with others who understand the unique challenges of caregiving, share experiences, exchange ideas, and access valuable information and community resources. The Caregivers Conversation Group (CCG) is delivered as a twice-weekly, drop-in social and recreational support program.
Sessions extend beyond conversation to include an opportunity for laughter, relaxation, and reflection. These activities are intentionally simple yet meaningful, offering caregivers moments of reprieve from daily demands and supporting stress reduction, emotional regulation, and healthy coping strategies.
Sessions are structured to balance open dialogue with informal connection, allowing caregivers to engage at their own comfort level.
CCG is intentionally non-clinical in nature. Rather than focusing on treatment or intervention, the program will emphasize relationship-building, restoration, and community. Sometimes, a shared cup of coffee and a listening ear are enough to open the door to meaningful conversation, renewed hope, and a reminder that caregivers are not alone.
Whether you're caring for a spouse, parent, child, family member, or friend living with an acquired brain injury, your voice matters. By completing our interest form, you'll help us determine the best meeting times, preferred format (virtual or in person), and discussion topics that are most important to caregivers in our community.
If you're interested in participating, or simply want to stay informed about future caregiver supports, we'd love to hear from you.
